Choosing socks can be a serious thing.

Simple rules for socks: synthetic. Of course no cotton or cotton-blend. At least not up here. Merino-synthetic blend can do but one should have tried socks of that kind before taking out to a long backpacking tour.

The socks are often the cause of blisters. The (at least almost) foolproof trick is to have thin nylon socks at hand. They weigh next to nothing and if just the shadow of suspect awakens about the skin of the feet being rubbed by the socks: take off the boots and the socks, put on the nylon socks and the socks previously worn and the boots. The nylon socks stick to the feet and take the rubbing and nothing harms the skin. No blisters.
