Scotland - a nearby hillwalkers must

Spending some days hiking and scrambling in the Scottish Highlands can be so easy for an Icelander. Taking a backpack of ca. 6 kg as hand luggage means that one can walk directly through the terminal in Glasgow, get on a bus to the bus terminal and then get on another one which takes me away from Glasgow. Starting the journey in the morning and enjoying a nice dinner at a restaurant in a village by the waterfront of a Loch in the evening, after taking a nap before dinner. Set out at daybreak and walk into the mountains to stand on the top of a Munroe at lunchtime - with a sandwich and a flask of lukewarm tea.

The trails are clear - admittedly the markings could be better but this is Great Britain and things are not supposed to be perfect, are they?  The weather was good when I hiked there. Partly overcast, fresh winds from the Atlantic. At early spring the temperatures were just perfect for hillwalking.

Talking with the locals was mostly o.k. but I must confess that I hardly understood a word of the language some people there spoke. I am sure that I would have understood the written words but the sounds some of the locals uttered clad the words in such misleading forms, that there was not a chance for me to comprehend. Nice people but minor linguistic problems at times.
