Raingear is always in my backpack

Actually, I think I would even bring my raingear with me to Sahara. Most likely not the sturdiest one - which would be my Montane Alpine Endurance eVent rain jacket and my REI Talusphere rain trousers. Jacket bought on eBay and trousers at REI. Unfortunately, I think I will not buy more from REI as they ship to Iceland via DHL Iceland - which offers indescribably bad service.

I might take with me my ultralight Montane Minimus Smock and my Montane Atomic rain trousers. At least, this is the raingear I carry in my backpack if chances of rain are not so scary. If the weather forecast is seriously threatening heavy rain for days, I take my sturdy gear with me. That gear is really the only set which has really kept me dry on day long walks in horizontal rain in Iceland. And we can have such conditions for days.

I have had rain jackets and trousers from 66°North which is just a joke. At least it's not gear for outdoors people. Some of the Cintamani (another "Icelandic" brand) served me well but as with the 66°North stuff, the pricing is out of context. My Mermot Gore-Tex active rain jacket is only good in light rain / showers. My GoLite set is o.k. but as there is no armpit ventilation on the jacket or pockets it's not good except on very short walks.

So - if you are planning hiking or doing a backpacking tour in Iceland, buy your stuff at home. Most likely you will have a much broader variety to chose from - and the pricing in outdoor shops in Iceland is ridiculous.
