Nepal - where I want to go again - and again
Visiting Nepal was quite different to what I had expected. Some of my friends and colleagues had been there and one of my brothers-in-law had climbed Ama Dablam on a tour guided by Simon Yates and made a documentary film about that tour.
After all the time I spent there, I still want to go there again. Not because of some sort of nostalgia - I don´t think that I will see things the way I saw them before and I don´t think that I will sense the environment, the surroundings the same way as I did. I do not think that I would be too exited about going to the classic tourist attractions like Everest Base Camp - I did not want to go there when I was in Nepal. Instead, I went - with a guide - on the Langtang trek. I visited Chitwan National Park and rode an elephant etc. and went to other "interesting" spots. But I got the strongest impression of Nepal on a several days hike in the countryside where there are no tourist attractions. Just the folks of Nepal, honest, poor and hardworking. I would like to pay those folks a visit one day. And enjoy the landscape and some hikes as well.
If you plan going to Nepal, start with http://www.alpinenepaltrekking.com/ - Lapsang Lama did a great job assisting me and opening doors to the common people of Nepal.
