Trousers - my experience

We really have a variety to choose from when it comes to trousers. If I emphasize on Icelandic surroundings, I can easily state, that light, fast drying trousers would be my choice. Light, so rain trousers can added on without "heating" too much. Fast drying, so they can take light showers and be dry before the next shower hits. Sometimes convertible trousers but when walking in snow or sand long sleeves are a must.

From time to time I like to wear my running pants when hiking. They fit well and are quite practical when walking on crampons as their sleeves will not be caught by the spikes of the crampons.

But hiking in winter simply means fleece. Fleece with some water resistance and windproof. Not too heavy and here again I would like to have the chance to add rainproof trousers in case of strong wind and snow being blown about. The snow will not cling on to good rain trousers as it does on fleece and the full-windproof rain trousers mean that the cooling of the wind is reduced down to be tolerable.

One thing is certain: no cotton.
